Depression and Non-Prescribed Drugs
Sometimes depression is caused by the use of drugs such as alcohol or marijuana (the two drugs most commonly used by college students), and other mind altering drugs. Sometimes students begin using drugs as a means of fitting in with their social group, or to cope with feelings of anxiety or depression. Over time these drugs alter the brain in ways that cause depression (see symptoms of depression above) among other damaging effects. It is important that when you have depression and use alcohol or illicit drugs that you seek treatment sooner rather than later.
